Before you want to access the darknet you have to understand what is dark Net and darknet markets and how does it work. The Internet world is basically divided into two parts. This is popularly known as the Iceberg theory. According to the “Iceberg” theory, we can only browse 10% of the internet and the remaining 90% is deep web or dark Net.
What is Dark Net?
The dark Net is also known as Dark Web or Deep Web, is the part of the internet but it can’t be accessed easily, you need to use specialized software and search engines to access the dark Net. Among this specialized software, one of the most popular TOR browsers. The abbreviation of TOR is “The Onion Router”. The name is inspired by the structure of onions. An onion has many layers. Just like an onion, information on the Tor Network is encrypted in many layers.
This increases the connection security of the user. Multiple layers of encryption make the user untraceable (almost). Many people use the darknet for this security. Many people use the darknet to securely exchange information. This removes the risk of information being leaked. And this extra level of security is why the darknet is the favorite place for criminals.
Criminals use the darknet for any illegal activities. The most common of them are buying and selling drugs. Hacking and other illegal activities are also common here. There is a difference between links of the normal web and links of the darknet. Normal web links end with .com or .net, but darknet links end with .onion. These links are not accessible with a normal browser.
How to Access Darknet safely?
To access the darknet, the first thing you have to do is download the Tor Browser. You can download the TOR browser here for free. After running the TOR Browser, you will a page like this one(see below). You can search for anything from here. But remember one thing, never use windows for accessing the darknet if you want to be completely anonymous then use “LINUX” because it is the safest operating system.
If you want to increase the security, then you will have to go to options from Open Menu. Then click on Privacy and security. Scroll down a little bit and you will see Security Level. Normally the Standard Option is selected. If you want more security, then you can select a Safer Option. If you want maximum security, then you can select the safest option. But remember, your internet speed will go down as you increase the security.
Haystak is a popular search engine of the darknet. Searching anything from here will return results from the darknet. You can use this site if you need to search for anything in the darknet. When you first access the darknet, you will probably be clueless about which websites do what or which websites do you need for your work. You can use The Hidden Wiki for this. The Hidden Wiki contains links to popular darknet sites. More than 100 websites of different categories are listed here.
Browsing the darknet may be dangerous
There are people and things on the darknet that you simply will need to avoid. Here are a few of them:
Viruses. Some websites may infect your devices with viruses, and there are a number of different types of viruses to watch out for. Remember to never obtain something from websites you don’t trust.
Hackers. You can find hacker forums on the darknet. You can also hire hackers to do illegal activities but this is not good. Hackers can be hacked your data.
Webcam hijacking. A website on the darknet could attempt to get a remote administration software called a “RAT” onto your system. Someone can get access to your webcam essentially, letting them see what you’re up to through your system’s camera lens. It’s a simple solution that is to cover your webcam with a piece of paper or tape.
Law enforcement officials also trying to stop criminal activity on the darknet. When they do, there are authorized penalties.
Here are some unusual cases where law enforcement took down criminals doing business on the darknet.
Silk Road: This was an online black market or darknet markets that sold illegal drugs. It was started in 2011. Total income was estimated at US$1.2 billion. Founder Ross Ulbricht was condemned and punished for life in prison.
AlphaBay: This was another online black market or darknet markets, started in 2014. It expanded to an estimated 10 times the size of the Silk Road. which was used to sell deadly illegal drugs, stolen and fraudulent identification documents and access devices, counterfeit goods, malware, and other computer hacking tools, firearms, and toxic chemicals throughout the world. Alleged founder Alexandre Cazes was arrested. He was found dead in a Thai jail cell, apparently by suicide, a few days later.
Hansa: This online black market expanded after AlphaBay was shut down and distributors moved to the platform. But Dutch police had already filtered through the marketplace and seized info tied to its operation. Police shut down this Hansa marketplace in 2017.
Whatever you do in the darknet or darknet markets is completely up to you. And remember, using TOR Browser reduces the chances of being hacked or tracked. But you can still get hacked or tracked if you are not cautious enough. You should use a VPN alongside using TOR. And instead of using the Windows Operating System when surfing the darknet, you should use Linux. It will decrease the possibility of being hacked or getting a virus on your computer.
